2010 Weldon trip 01

Good day on the water today. River flow was dropping at least 2 feet while we were on the Roanoke River this afternoon. Got out there around 1 PM, scouting trip and work-out-the-kinks run for this year's short striper season.

I lead off the catching with a nice 20 " keeper. Dan followed suit soon after. Plenty of bites but no lunkees. We caught two each that were "slot fish" that cannot be kept. Circle hooks are the way to go - nice corner mouth-hooked stripers that release easy every time caught so (evidently, a 66% chance of hooking up that way, according to NC Wildlife and Marine Fisheries biologists).

Fishing was on from about 1 - 5, with the last keeper coming in about 6:30 PM. Both in the 18 - 22" range. Not much else to report, except another beautiful and successful day of striper fishing at Weldon, NC!
